This is an MC020 mainboard, and the “Rev. D” version is an upgraded replacement that introduces ARM-based processors rather than the older PIC chips.
The revision contains distinct differences and characteristics:
  • Processor Upgrade: Replaces the older PIC-based architecture with more modern ARM chips, allowing a single board to support multiple SkyWatcher mount models (e.g., via specific firmware loaded upon connection).
  • Power Supply Sensitivity: Older Rev. B boards were robust at ~13.8V, but the upgraded boards operate optimally on a tighter, regulated 12V +/- 0.5V input i.e. 11.5v to 12.5v. 
  • Improved Connectivity: Rev D and newer revisions often include a direct USB connection port (J5 on ASCOM) to interface directly with PCs at 115200 baud without needing an EQMOD adapter.
